Ett Hem - Lounge

Since its launch in 2012, Ett Hem has been living up to its name which means ‘a home’. This beautiful building is a hotel like no other with an ethos that ensures guests feel like old friends rather than customers.

From the interlinking communal spaces to the kitchen that guests can help themselves to, Ett Hem encourages guests to enjoy the entire property rather than to remain within their chosen rooms.

Converted over a six year period by owner Jeanette Mix and the renowned Ilse Crawford of Studioilse, Ett Hem exudes a warmth and laid-back approach to hospitality that guests can’t fail to fall in love with.

Location

Located in Lärkstaden within Stockholm’s Ostermalm district, Ett Hem is nestled amidst a number of embassies near the center of the city. As well as opulent buildings and luxurious leafy surroundings, affluent Ostermalm has a vibrant nightlife with a large number of nightclubs in the area.

However, if it is a slower pace that you are seeking within Stockholm, the Humlegården is a beautifully manicured park in Ostermalm and the perfect spot to enjoy an al fresco meal. Take a trip to nearby Salluhall, one of the world’s best food halls offering a wide range of delicacies from Sweden and further afield.

Architecture

Originally built in 1910, Ett Hem is an Arts and Crafts townhouse which was designed as a family home for a government official and his wife by Frederik Dalhberg. With a striking brick exterior, the building has been designed to be flooded with sunlight to ensure the most inviting interior possible.

Ett Hem is built around a courtyard garden that serves as a calm oasis within the city that guests can enjoy meals in or relax and enjoy the summer sunshine. Filled with fresh flowers and herbs that are used in the kitchens and interiors, the garden is carefully tended (even winning an award at the prestigious Chelsea Flower Show) and, when night falls, twinkling fairy lights and lanterns illuminate the space.

When the weather is cooler, a glasshouse, built in brick and glass, offers a spot to enjoy the outdoors while cosying under a blanket. The creeping vines and views over the courtyard bringing a biophilic aspect to the design that evokes a deep feeling of relaxation.

Interiors

Designed with the core principles of the Arts and Crafts movement at the fore, every aspect of the interior design in Ett Hem has been tailored to ensure the most elegant yet inviting stay. Each space has been carefully created to bring a balance between the property’s original residential design and the requirements of today’s traveller while offering an entirely unique experience.

The hotel breaks the barriers associated with the traditional hotel model, allowing guests to go where they please without the restrictions of staff only areas or strict dining times. This open house atmosphere is enhanced by strikingly beautiful communal spaces that guests can enjoy at their leisure. From a well-stocked library with beautifully organised Dieter Rams shelving, statement lighting and classically Scandic influences, to a living room with original panelling, oak herringbone floors and stylish seating groups, this hotel’s design is the perfect fusion of comfort and elegance that truly wants to be used.

Mid Century inspirations permeate the design with classic silhouettes and minimalist furnishings appearing throughout the rooms. However, to ensure a more inviting feel, these are combined with the most luxurious of soft furnishings including richly upholstered sofas, chic chaise longues and scattered sheepskins rugs.

Owner Jeanette Mix trawled furniture emporiums all over the world to create a space that combines iconic designer pieces with unique vintage finds as well as custom designs that help to build on the homely feeling and ensure that there is absolutely nothing cookie-cutter about Ett Hem.

The palette used throughout the communal spaces is subtle and muted and works harmoniously with the array of materials that are present throughout the interiors. From light Scandic wood, butter soft leather and velvet upholstery to exposed brick and industrial-inspired lighting designs, this hotel offers ultimate luxury while remaining utterly understated and ensuring that relaxation is top of the agenda for all who stay there.

Rooms & Suites

As well as the array of communal spaces, Ett Hem offers 12 bedrooms including double rooms, deluxe doubles, suites, junior suites and one show stopping duplex double.

As with the communal areas, the rooms at Ett Hem are luxurious without being showy and are decorated with a palette of stylish earthy tones. Natural lighting floods the spaces while glamorous antique chandeliers adorn the high ceilings and complement the ornate cornicing. Attention to detail is key within the rooms at Ett Hem. From the Kiehl’s bathroom products to the in-room iPad, the space has been designed with the guest’s every need in mind.

Some of the rooms also boast cast iron wood burning stoves which bring additional warmth and heighten the sense of belonging that the guests experience.

The bathrooms are among the most opulent spaces within the hotel with brass fittings, deep marble baths, and rainfall showers. From the luxuriously fluffy towels to the unique artworks, these bathrooms work hard to ensure that every inch of the guest experience is one that will linger in the memory forever.

Food & Drink

The kitchen forms the heart of Ett Hem, with the other communal rooms leading off it. As with the rest of the property, guests are encouraged to enjoy the kitchen as they please, creating a welcoming, inviting atmosphere.

While guests may make snacks for themselves in the kitchen whenever they wish, the menu at Ett Hem is unwritten and ever-changing with the chefs deciding upon the dishes that will be served each day. Celebrating local produce and creating dishes brimming with soul, guests can expect offerings such as butter marinated rooster wings, steamed cod, and roasted cauliflower served with an array of wines and champagnes to suit all palates.

True to the Ett Hem ethos, meals are served in whichever area the guests prefer and at the time that suits them best to ensure ultimate relaxation.
