Description
Atlas Hotels appointed Occa Design to oversee the refurbishment of the public areas of Holiday Inn Express Edinburgh Waterfront, refurbishing the open-plan public areas to align with the Holiday Inn Express Gen IV concept.
Located in Leith, hotel guests are primarily leisure and tourism guests, often with families. As with the Atlas Hotel sites in Birmingham and Bristol, the aim was to create an inviting ambiance that would encourage guests to enjoy the hotels’ facilities.
An existing meeting room was removed to make space for a new breakfast buffet area and offices were stripped out to improve the sense of arrival at reception. These alterations helped to improve the flow of the open plan space and the seamless movement from the lobby through the reception and bar to the restaurant. Colours, materials, and finishes fuse together to create a neutral backdrop, further enhanced with the introduction of rich dark grey tones and light timbers to add warmth and texture.
A generous lounge area with contemporary lounge seating, inviting sofa’s and round footstools positioned on circular rugs, is dividing from the reception area using feature timber bookcases, creating a comfortable transition between the two areas and allowing the bar to become a vibrant social hub in the evenings. A variety of high and low seating creates flexibility and bespoke fixed seating with a felt feature screen above it further divides the spaces whilst adding colour and pattern. Our fabric colours take the brand direction of blues and greys, opting for darker tones and introducing dark teal and petrol colours creating a contemporary and stylish interior.
As with Holiday Inn Express Birmingham NEC, guest feedback on the new contemporary interiors at Holiday Inn Express Edinburgh Waterfront has been extremely positive with a notable increase in food and beverage revenue since completion.
