Adopting a triple bottom line framework for our business, OCCA is committed to move towards a regenerative and sustainable future, while raising awareness of the climate and biodiversity emergencies in the world today.

We want to make a positive impact to our society and planet through all our business activities, by embracing the connectivity & interdependency of people, planet & profits.

  1. Next Economy

Positively transitioning towards the Next/Nature Economy

  2. Regenerative

Embracing a regenerative and systems based design approach

  3. Life Cycle Thinking

    Adopting innovative full life-cycle thinking

  4. Measuring

    Monitoring, measuring & reporting progress

As signatories of the Interior Design Declares movement, we have 5 key objectives we seek to achieve as we work through our design, creative & procurement projects:

  1. Strategies

To develop innovative environmental, social and economic sustainability strategies, from our initial design concepts, through the detailed design & construction stages onto to procurement and then across the full lifecycle of the property we are working on

  2. Evaluation

To evaluate projects and consider not only how they can do better in terms of the environment, biodiversity & ecosystem protection, but how they might contribute positively to mitigating or reversing climate breakdown - and we encourage our clients to adopt this approach too

  3. Conservation

To work towards natural resource conservation, including life cycle costing, whole life carbon modelling and post-occupancy evaluation as part of our basic scope of work, to reduce both embodied and operational resource use

  4. Credibility

To ensure the credibility of our supply chain and requesting 3rd party certification or similar demonstration of environmental provenance and impact for each product we specify

  5. Minimise

To minimise wasteful use of resources by collaborating with all members of the design teams we work with to further reduce construction and packaging waste and continually improve pollution management on sites

Design Approach

Embracing planetary limitations as a positive creative framework, we identify the potential for high impact opportunities on projects, where we can drive meaningful & sustainable design & procurement.

It is our policy to fully comply with all applicable local, national, and international laws and guidance where we operate. With our 7-point check list we aim to:

  1. Design out waste & pollution
  2. Utilize recycled, pre-used or surplus materials
  3. Design in low embodied carbon or carbon positive materials
  4. Design for resource efficiency
  5. Design for adaptability, re-use & deconstruction
  6. Design for wellbeing using natural, sustainable, healthier and certified materials
  7. Design for efficient & effective construction

We aim to infuse our 7-point check list in each one of the 9 stages that are included in our sustainable project lifecycle:

Responsible Sourcing
