Description
Originally completed by Occa Design in 1998, our team returned to Birdston Care Home in 2018 to oversee an extensive soft refurbishment of the home on behalf of the Pacific Care team.
All 24 bedrooms and the full extent of communal spaces would be refurbished to a high standard, creating spaces which are inviting and homely whilst being respectful and safe, enabling residents to lead a happy, fulfilled and diverse life.
Nestled at the foot of the Campsie Hills, just outside of Glasgow, with stunning views in a fantastic location, alterations to each bedroom would see the inclusion of full height glazed windows and doors giving access out into the newly landscaped gardens. A number of rooms having small private terraces added. The increased glazing throughout the property would change the ambience of the internal spaces, flooding them with light and colour from the gardens.
Our brief was to create a 5* care home experience which drew on the external landscaping to create spaces which we equally well-considered, inviting and inspiring. Offering residents and guests an elevated home from home experience in fantastic surroundings.
Ensuring all specifications met the high standard expected in healthcare, the Occa Design team worked alongside a wealth of similarly experienced and knowledgeable suppliers to create a fantastic design concept which would appeal to residents and their guests alike.
Renray Healthcare, Shackletons and Protocol all provided furniture, soft furnishings were by Glasgow-based Elite and Tim Bloss provided bespoke cabinetry throughout. Newhey Carpets and Gerflor flooring feature as does feature lighting from Chelsom and Heathfield & Co. Healthcare specific fabrics from ILIV Interior Textiles are used throughout.
The resulting rooms at Birdston Care Home are vibrant yet cosy and inviting. Bedrooms are decorated thoughtfully in a style which is both peaceful and relaxed. Communal spaces offer a variety of furniture and flexibility to suit a variety of social uses. The finished interiors have been received fantastically well by residents, visitors, the local community and the Care Commission for Scotland.
