Located in an elevated position at the top of Bathwick Hill, with outstanding views overlooking Prior Park and the city, Combe Royal is a spectacular country house and estate in the heart of Bath.
Combe Royal Heritage
Originating in the 1850’s the main house is a striking Grade II listed building sitting in just over 3 acres of extensive grounds and private woodland within the Bath Conservation Area & World Heritage site.
The estate also includes an independent 3 bedroom Coach House, Tack Room, outdoor Swimming Pool, Pool House, Greenhouses, Kitchen, Garden and Garages.
Combe Royal The Brief
Tasked with creating a 21st-century family home in an 19th-century Grade II listed building, the OCCA Design team rose to the challenge, creating contemporary interiors that respond to modern-day life.
Each room was carefully considered and detailed to deliver a welcoming warmth and homeliness that is often difficult to achieve in period properties.
Combe Royal Our approach
Our approach was inspired by the Frank Gerry mantra that “Architecture should speak of its time and place but yearn for timelessness.”
We achieved this by exploring, respecting, and celebrating elements of the past and the beautiful Jacobean revival style of this outstanding building, while keeping the property dynamic & alive internally, creating a bridge to the future and family life in the 21st century.
