Description
Since 1891 Kilmacolm Golf Club golf club has prided itself on offering a warm and friendly welcome to members and visitors alike. The Occa Design team were appointed to undertake the phased refurbishment of the clubhouse restaurant and bar. Our brief requested a design concept that would create spaces which were intimate and inviting as well as elegant. A contemporary style was needed to bring spaces up to date, however, the team were keen to retain the ambience of a traditional golf club. A limited budget was available so our design and specification would need to be reflective of this whilst achieving the best possible quality finish.
Our first phase of works focused on the restaurant, which offers Table d’hote dining and an A La Carte menu. The final design created a dark and rich interior with taupe and brown wall finishes and black timber, with traditional wall detailing and a neutral carpet. Accented with vibrant orange upholstery fabrics and feature ceiling lighting. Furniture shapes were classic with a contemporary twist. Feature screens, designed alongside Glasgow-based textile designers Timorous Beastie, create intimacy. Window treatments were rich and luxurious, reflecting the neutral colours and vibrant orange accent. The dark, dramatic colour palette creates an ambience suited to the high-end dining experience on offer.
In the bar area, the same tones were applied in different proportions, creating a unified, flowing design which lads comfortably from one space to the next. Lighter wall finishes and warm timbers mix with neutral leathers and checked fabrics providing a contrast with the orange accent colour.
The Kilmacolm Golf Club concept has brought the club a refreshing new look which has now been extended to include the entrance hall. The stylish interiors were well-received by members and guests and relaxing bar and revitalised restaurant are both busy and appealing.
