Interior Design & Procurement Projects Ten Hill Place Hotel

Completed in August 2018, the newly refurbished Ten Hill Place Hotel opened it’s doors in style as the Edinburgh Fringe Festival kicked off.

Boasting 52 new bedrooms taking the total room count to 129, plus extended public spaces including a new bar and restaurant, Ten Hill Place Hotel has re-established itself a stylish destination boutique hotel in the heart of Scotland’s capital city.

Owned and operated by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Ten Hill Place Hotel puts profits back into advancing surgical standards worldwide to improve patient outcomes. The £8.5m expansion of the existing hotel offering aims to increase the contributions which improve the lives of surgical patients around the world.

Experienced contractors Thomas Johnstone were appointed to deliver the project, working alongside Occa Design, JM Architects, The Mace Group, Rybka and The David Adamson Group.

When establishing the interior design concept our background research found that both the hotel and the college are situated on a site which was established as a riding school in 1764, with the Surgeons Hall Museum opening on the site from 1832. Following the presentation of the concept, this rich equestrian theme was selected to influence the design style throughout and was enthusiastically received by the RCSEd and hotel teams.

Our materials palette reinterprets obvious equestrian associations to create an understated style for this elegant contemporary hotel. Exposed stonework, black metalwork, timber and rich leather upholstery set the backdrop for this design. Buckle details, saddle shapes, diamond-back quilting and stable doors subtly influence the beautiful furniture, soft furnishings and accessories.

The stunning interiors are stylish, inviting and relaxing. The rich story behind the interiors of Ten Hill Place Hotel has created a concept which is unique to the hotel and with a strong local relevance.
