The Duke of Montrose
Occa Design were appointed to assist The Duke of Montrose and the team at Buchanan Castle Golf Club with the refurbishment of the Clubhouse bar and lounge. The interior design brief given requested the inclusion of the extensive collection of artwork and antiques held by the Montrose family and that the proposals should embrace the ancient heritage of both the estate and golf club, appealing to both members and visitors.
The building now occupied by the Clubhouse was built on the site of the ancient Buchanan House, home of the Buchanan Family, land owners on Loch Lomond since the 13th century. The house burned down in 1852 and the present building incorporates some of the surviving walls. The course itself was designed by James Braid in 1936.
Following input and guidance from The Duke, the Montrose family tartan was selected as a focus for the interior design concept. Its rich tones of blue, red and green on a neutral background were further enriched with the addition of red and taupe accents fabrics and rich brown leather upholstery. Light wall finishes keep the spaces bright and airy and encourage a focus on the tranquil views from the windows. Flagstones floor are retained in the foyer and a bespoke carpet was created to reflect the Montrose family tartan once again.
The artwork collection, featuring portraits of previous Dukes of Montrose and a series of historical Montrose family racehorses, was hung by a specialist team ensuring the correct curation and environment for the pieces. Antiques and collectables are placed carefully within the spaces. The entrance hall with its feature seating, stags heads & antique console table offers a perfect snapshot of the interiors which sit beyond the doors.
The distinctive and unique interior of Buchanan Castle Golf Club offers a comfortable welcome to members and visitors alike. Buchanan Castle Golf Club has continued to enjoy a successful membership role in addition to welcoming both new and returning tournaments, corporate and private events.
