The crowning glory in Hamilton Grand, the Penthouse is a spectacular four-bedroom apartment overlooking the 18th Green of the Old Course with frontline views to the West Sands.

HAMILTON GRAND PENTHOUSE Background

The Grand Hotel originally built by Thomas Hamilton in 1895, set a benchmark for luxurious hospitality as it was the first Scottish hotel to have hot & cold running water in every bathroom and a pneumatic elevator.

Following years of neglect, the building was acquired by the American owners of The Old Course Hotel, Kohler Co. Between 2011 and 2013 they painstakingly converted it into 27 private luxury apartments with some of the best views in St Andrews, and renamed it Hamilton Grand.

HAMILTON GRAND PENTHOUSE The Brief

Working closely and collaboratively with our US-based clients, our brief for the Penthouse at Hamilton Grand was to create a warm, welcoming, and characterful home that celebrates their heritage and connections to Scotland.

Following a full reconfiguration of the internal architecture to the entrance, kitchen dining, and living areas to create an open plan space that maximises the outstanding views, every internal detail was meticulously considered with a focus on creating a unique and highly personal residence for the owners.

HAMILTON GRAND Concept

Our design concept for the Penthouse was inspired by the outstanding location and unique vista the apartment commands over the 18th hole of the Old Course and stretching across the West Sands.

With a focus on traditional Scottish materials & textiles applied in a contemporary setting, the scheme includes bespoke furniture throughout, designed by OCCA and manufactured exclusively for the Penthouse.
