Mosswood Care Home is a purpose-built care home providing expert 24 hours nursing care for residents with dementia or physical disability.

The property joins the Pacific care portfolio offering specialist care to residents with a variety of needs, within a welcoming and secure environment. Occa Design was brought in to create high-quality homely interiors for this specialist facility, utilising our extensive hotel experience to create inviting spaces in line with the latest healthcare guidelines for dementia and non-dementia care. Additionally, our team worked closely with Pacific Care staff to apply their expertise alongside their extensive research and feedback.

The £4.2m project has seen the development of a property built entirely on one level and comprising 3 wings. Seventy-one private bedrooms with ensuite facilities and small secure gardens have been designed and created, complemented by a wide range of social spaces and inner communal gardens. With the addition of a hair salon and nail bar, plus a cinema room and coffee bar, the final concept is a well-considered and thoughtfully designed care home with the needs and comfort of its residents as a primary focus in its design.

Within the interior design approach, four colour schemes were created across the bedrooms to appeal to the wide range of residents, offering choice, a sense of identity and the opportunity for a welcoming, home from home transition. Social spaces have been designed in bright and uplifting colours with warm homely touches. The rooms are easily identifiable to residents through the application of a different colour scheme in each space. Fabric patterns have been carefully considered so as not to cause confusion and materials are both practical and durable whilst remaining tactile and appealing. Old photographs have been recreated as feature wallcoverings in key areas to provide a sense of comfort, location and identity to residents.

Whilst specified to a high level in accordance with healthcare guidelines the resulting spaces are warm, cosy and welcoming. Carefully designed to exceed expectations in terms of practicality and style, the building and interiors of Mosswood Care Home have been well received by the Care Inspectorate and other relevant bodies.
