Description

Our second project of 2018 with Atlas Hotels saw interior design proposals by Occa Design implemented to the public areas of Holiday Inn Express Bristol City Centre.

The design aimed to bring the open plan space up to date in keeping the Holiday Inn Express Gen IV concept. Although small, the hotel benefits from a central location directly opposite Bristol Temple Meads Train Station, with the hotel’s public areas visible from the street. With plenty of footfall, the hotel wished to capitalise on passing trade in terms of food and beverage spend.

The aim was to create an inviting ambience that would appeal to guests spending time in the hotel and also draw in local people increasing food and beverage sales. Our brief was to adapt the small space, maximising its potential and providing everything anticipated of the new Gen IV concept.

The layout was reconfigured to improve the sense of arrival and refine the extent of the reception area which previously dominated the space. The buffet area was then repositioned and aligned with the bar, increasing the main open plan floor space. Colours, materials, and finishes fuse together to create a neutral backdrop, further enhanced with the introduction of rich dark grey tones and light timbers to add warmth and texture.

A small lounge area with soft seating and footstools positioned on circular rugs creates a relaxing space near to the bar. Poseur seating along the street facing windows creates offers comfortable viewing for guests and highlights the hotel’s potential use as a coffee bar and informal meeting venue to people passing by. Our fabric colours take the brand direction of blues and greys, opting for darker tones and introducing dark teal and petrol colours creating a contemporary and stylish interior.

As with Holiday Inn Express Birmingham NEC, guest feedback on the new contemporary interiors at Holiday Inn Express Bristol City Centre has been extremely positive with a notable increase in food and beverage revenue since completion. The teams at IHG, Atlas Hotels and parent company London & Regional Hotels are delighted with the outcome.
